How You Can Earn Several Income Streams From 1 Simple Squidoo Lens

It still amazes me that I am earning a few hundred of dollars every month online without investing one single penny. And yes, most of this money is earned through Squidoo Lenses. But my online earnings don't just come from Squidoo. In fact one simple Squidoo lens can earn me money from many different income streams which is so cool!

I thought it would be fun to show you how you can earn money from 1 simple lens. The example I will use is my Adorable Easter Bunny Pillow Pets lens.

This lens is less than 2 months old. It was created March 1st 2011. I created it for Easter. Now that Easter is over, here is my results....

Through Squidoo, I sold 1 Pillow Pet.

9 pillow pets sold!

But I also do direct linking on my Squidoo lenses as an affiliate of Amazon. (this way I don't have to split the money with Squidoo). Here are those sales....

Not only that, but I had a purchase through an affiliate link that I have at LinkShare.

I will also earn money from Squidoo that they share with me from Google adsense as well as other advertisers.

And it doesn't stop there.

I promoted my Squidoo lens on Redgage. Redgage pays you for views which is really cool. I upload all of my Squidoo Lenses at Redgage and this gives me tons of traffic.

When it's all said and done, I will earn from 5 different income streams! All generated from one Simple lens.
When people ask me how I earn hundreds of dollars each month with Squidoo I tell them, create a lens (just like I did above). Then Repeat with another lens. And so on and so on!

How to Sell Squidoo Lens

When someone buys a lens from you. You will want to go to your paypal account and send them an invoice for your lens. Just log into your paypal account and click the tab that says "request" money. Type in their e-mail and the amount you want to be paid. Click goods and then type a note if you like. I always say something like thank you for the purchase of abc lens or something like that. Click Send.

Wait until you have been paid.

Then go to your Squidoo dashboard and look down the left hand side of the page where it says transfer a lens. Just simply follow the instructions.

Keep in mind the buyers Squidoo e-mail and Paypal e-mails may be different. So be sure to find out from your customer which one to use.

Why Do People Buy Squidoo Lenses?

Buying Squidoo lenses is a great way for a "newbie" to get started on Squidoo with a few lenses. Since the lenses are already created they just need to do a little tweaking. And another advantage for a newbie is that, depending on who you buy the lens from SEO is good. So you don't have to worry so much about keyword research.

Other Squids buy lenses simply because they don't have the time to build their own lenses but they enjoy Squidoo and earning money. Buying Lenses from an established lensmaster is a great way to build a base of lenses when you don't have the time to create your own lenses.

But another reason people buy lenses is simply because they want the url. So for example imagine if you wanted to do a lens about a topic but the url was already taken. You might decide to buy a lens simply because of the url.

I have seen many lenses on Squidoo that have only a few modules and the content is total crap with spelling errors. I think to myself, what a waste of a good url. If this happens to you, contact the lensmaster and ask them if you can buy the lens. Make them an offer. Think about it, you could buy the lens for $5 and then totally revamp it into an amazing lens.

Make Money Selling Squidoo Lenses

Over at Squidoo you have have heard people mention lens flipping or selling a Squidoo Lens. And I never ever considered selling off my lenses...until this past Christmas when I was struggling to keep 300+ lenses updated. I went through and realized that I had several lenses that I could part with for the right price. So I decided to start offering a few lenses up for sale.

The first thing I did was try to figure out the best way to let people know that I was selling lenses. So I created a Squidoo Lens to promote my products.

Then I needed to decide what to sell the lenses for. And it really is up to you how you want to do it. I prefer to uses the Squidoo Lens Valuation Tool as a guide. Again this is only a guide but it gives you a good idea what your lens is worth. Keep in mind a Christmas lens will be worth more in the fall then in the Spring and you also need to consider any affiliate sales that you generate. For example, in the last quarter of the year, I sold well over 100 board games though direct linking with Amazon on my New Board Games Lens. Yet the value according to the valuation tool is 12.74. I will probably never sell this lens but if I did I wouldn't accept less than a few hundred dollars, because that is how much I will make this Christmas on it.

I generally sell off lenses that haven't really aged yet. I find that with proper keyword research I can generally get a lens indexed within a few days. But unless it is a really hot item it takes several months for me to really see substantial income from that lens. So I may decide to take the cash now by transferring or selling a lens to another lens master. This way I am helping them out as well.

Is Selling lenses right for everyone? No. But it seems to be working for me. I just keep creating new lenses each day and flipping some of the older ones. It is fun and it brings me extra income. Last month I earned an extra $375.00 by flipping my lenses. Which is just really cool.

300 Squidoo Lenses by Christmas

Since my Christmas Amazon and Squidoo Earnings were so pleasantly big, I made a decision that I would build at least 5 new lenses a week. And I have been pretty successful. As of this moment I have 191 lenses. So I was thinking today that if I just average 3.5 lenses a week, I'll have 300 lenses by Christmas and thus, hopefully tripling my amazon and Squidoo Earnings. :)

So as I've been building these lenses, I've noticed that it is a little bit more difficult to keep track of them. So I have decided to post all of my new lenses here each week. This way as I refresh older lenses I can still keep track of my newer ones.

What are some of the tricks that you have found to keep track of your lenses?

New Widgets!

One of the perks of being a Squidoo Giant is being able to test out lots of new gadgets on Squidoo before they go live. So over the past few days, I have been having fun playing with the new side widget. It works just like all of the other modules on your Squidoo lens, except these show up on the side. With the widget you can add an Amazon Spotlight, Featured Lenses, Squidcasts, or your Blog RSS.

This has really been fun. I think it really makes a difference as well. I have updated a few of my lenses and added the widget. I've also created a couple new lenses that display the new widgets.

I am getting great results so far this holiday with Amazon and Squidoo. So far I have had 6 sales in November and 2 in December. It looks like December is going to be a great month with Squidoo Earnings. My lens Warm Snugly Slippers was the last sale. I sold two pairs of slippers. How cool is that!?

If you have any Squidoo Lenses, I suggest you make sure you have an Amazon module on all of your lenses, even if it isn't a sales lens. For example if you have a lens about Snow or How to Build a Snowman, you could ad an amazon module that sells gloves and scarves or snow shovels. Make it fun and watch your earning go up!

Warning.....Venting....

I'm not sure why it irritates me so much when I go to peoples squidoo pages and they have a very nice lens that is very thought out, yet the bio says..."This is my Bio- I can update it later".

Maybe it is because it makes me feel like they are hiding and don't want me to know "Who they are" or maybe they are just scattered and really don't care.

I just know for me, blogging and yes Squidoo is a blog, is about connecting with the reader. As as reader, I want to know who the writer is.

I'm just curious, Does this irritate anyone else or is it just me?

How to NOT have your Squidoo Locked promoting an Affiliate Marketing Program

Lots of people use Squidoo as a way to promote their affilaite programs. And that is fine as long as you are not creating a lens that is spammy!

I have 99 lenses and many of them promote an affiliate program. What I do is always write good unique content. I make sure I always give value that will help someone, rather than promote a product. Then I usually add a module with the link to my website. My two favorite modules are the "black Box" or "big arrow link". That is the only place I put my link. The biggest mistakes people make is that they put more than 2 links on their page.

The secret with marketing on Squidoo is to make your lens feel like an article with good information. If it feels like an advertisement it will probably be locked.

Affiliate marketing is actually pretty easy to add to what you are doing. What you do is find a product that you like and you can build an article around that product. This is very direct. Here is an example.

I am directly promoting My Online Income System at Squidoo. What I do is I use this squidoo page as a landing page. Because if you write an article and submit is to article sites, most sites will not let you post an affiliate link. So the way around this is to direct them to your squidoo lens.

Then there is the not direct approach. Write a lens or a hubpage about a topic that interests you, then find an affiliate program that is similar and add it as a link to the page. Here is an example...

I was just putting the final touches on my latest Squidoo Lens and I started thinking about how much really enjoyed making this lens. Each lens that I create are special to me in their own way. Squidoo has really become an every day part of my life. When I think of something that is important to me or strikes a nerve with me, I often find myself creating a lens. It really is just plain fun to make lenses. It gives me a chance to be creative and express myself. What's really cool though is that once again around the 10th of the month, I will be getting squidoo earnings.

Networking on Squidoo

The thing that makes Squidoo work is the "networking". You can build relationships with other lensmasters which create curiosity so people will visit your lens as well. In other words, when ever someone visits my lens I always recipricate by visiting at least one of their lenses. Sometimes when I get to their lens It isn't something that I totally agree with, but I will alway leave a comment even if it is just letting them know that I was their. Most lensmasters do the same thing.

So if you want traffic to your squidoo lens, you should right now, go visit at least 20 lenses that are similar to yours and add a comment and rate at the least. Then watch what happens. I bet you, at least 5 of those people if not more will do the same for you! Have fun!

Re-read every module. Check for grammar errors or spelling errors. You may even want to have someone else read your lens. I always have one of my teenager's have a look at my lenses and they always catch errors and they often have so great ideas as to what I should add.

Check and make sure each model title is filled out (rather than the default one). For example your guest book should not say "new guestbook".
Ask yourself if there is a module that you could add? I like to add interactive modules like the debate or guest book.
Then, After you push publish be sure to share it with the world. And make sure you send it to me! :)

Write from the Heart!

Out of all of my lenses the ones that get the most traffic and comments are the ones that I am passionate about.

That first text module is often the hardest, but if you write from your heart the rest of the lens will flow out of you very easily.

I write about everything and anything. I write about personal challenges that I have had, and offer help to others who may be going through the same thing, or I might write about a funny experience or something that made me smile. I often write about challenges that network marketers have and share how I have overcame them.

For me, it doesn’t matter what the topic is, I write from my heart and always think about the reader first. I am thinking about how I can help them.

The biggest mistake people make when creating Squidoo lenses, is they are trying to sell a product. And so the lens appears to be one big sales add.

It is okay to sell. I mean I have links to my products and Amazon links on most of my lenses, but I first write from the heart and offer help to the reader.

I love Squidoo for so many reasons. Squidoo has connected me with amazing people and has been a way for me to help others. I created this lens because I believe that fast food is playing a huge role in the obesity problem here in the United States. Can Fast food kill you? Maybe not by itself, but if you add in a sedentary lifestyle you are opening yourself up to obesity and many of the diseases including diabetes.

Twitter Tip - Why can't I follow?

Another new Twitter Tip...

Last week I noticed that I could no longer follow. What had happened was that I was following 2000 people. After doing some research I learned that if you follow substantially more people then follow you, twitter will prevent you from following people.

How to resolve it? You have two options.

One option is to un-follow some people. Now at first this didn't seem like a good idea, but once I started going through and looking at the people I follow I saw a bunch of people who are inactive and haven't done a thing for several months.

The other option is to simply wait until you have more followers.

Twitter Tip

I'm sure most of you tweet your lens every-time you update or create a new one. I have started writing more personalized tweets rather than the standard "reading this" and I have found that I am getting substantially more visits to my lens.

So for example, when I updated my Spring is coming lens, I simply asked a question, "Are you ready for Spring?".

Try it and see if you get better results as well.

Spring is my favorite time of year. I love that day when I walk outside and I can just smell it. Spring is coming. It seems like everything around is waking up after a long winters nap. You start to see the beautiful Crocus appear. I notice the birds and butterflies begin to appear. I can feel the sun on my shoulder.
I am watching for the signs of spring.

Here are 3 simple things you can do to up your rankings and get more traffic to your Squidoo lenses - today!

1. Start visiting other peoples lenses. Rate their lenses and add them to your favorites if you honestly loved it. Also be sure to leave a comment. Try to put some thought in your comment. Don't just say, "Nice Lens". When your comment has real value, it will cause curiosity and others will want to check you out. So they will either visit your profile, or visit a few of your lenses. I have also found that when you leave a positive comment on someone's lens, they will usually return the favor and visit your lens.

2. Put your lens in as many groups as possible within the same topic. This will also give you lots of exposure.

3. Twitter! If you don't use Twitter, you should check it out. Twitter is a social networking site that displays all of your daily actions on your profile. I twitter everything I do. I also follow anyone who follows me.

The most important this is to have fun. I love squidoo and have generated huge traffic to my website because of it. I have also made wonderful friends.

I really enjoyed making this lens. I was up until 1 in the morning working on it. I love the posters that I found at AllPosters.com. I really think it makes the lens pretty.

My Valentine and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary on April 9th! And when I look back over the years I know I received flowers and candy and nice bath salts, but what I remember is the special times and the goofy things Michael has done to express his love.

I just realized that I am now over 40 lenses. How cool is that? I can't believe how quickly and easily that happened. I remember back in September when I was thinking, maybe I should try to become a Giant Squid- but How in the world will I come up with 50 ideas for new lenses. The funny thing is, ideas come from out of no where.

I remember reading once that you know you are addicted to Squidoo when throughout your day, you say to yourself, "Wow, I should make a lens about that!". But it's true.

Anyways....I'm having fun. Maybe I'll have 50+ good quality lenses before December 31st and I can submit for Giant Squid. You Never Know.

I joined Tagfoot about 2 months ago and I have to tell you this group has the nicest people. Tagfoot is a bookmarking site. It is a great place to keep track of all of your squidoo lenses. When you have a nice friends list, you can share your new lens with your friend and you will be amazed at the wonderful comments and rates you get on your lens. More importantly you will get some good honest feedback so you can make your lens even better.
